Emergency Delivery!

By Sam

We’re not sure what this says about how hard pressed or simply too busy our wonderful British emergency services are, but we’ve just completed an order analysis on our site and can reveal the bombshell that members of emergency services across the country are way out in front when it comes to ordering takeaways to their work places.

We put the spotlight on our data and grilled it intensively to give up its secrets, looking at the numbers of takeaway meals ordered, which emergency service ordered most and which particular regions of the country seemed to prefer the option of a takeaway delivered to the local nick, fire station, surgery or hospital.

Since March 2009, about 140,000 meals orders through Just-Eat.co.uk have come from police stations, fire stations, doctors’ surgeries and hospitals around the UK. More than 3,500 of those orders were delivered to police stations in Yorkshire and Humberside alone! Policemen and women in the West Midlands followed close behind. In fact, over half of the takeaway meals orders by emergency services personnel across the UK in the last year came from police stations.

Firemen were the least likely emergency service to order takeaway food to their station and despite what you may have heard about hospital food, fewer than 94,000 meals were ordered by doctors’ surgeries and hospitals (can’t tell whether they were for the medics or the patients).

Top “Blues & Twos Menus” takeaway choice for almost every emergency service across the UK is Pizza, followed by Indian, Chinese or Japanese and Thai. But interrogate this cool graphic below and you’ll get an idea of who eats what and where while they are looking after us.

and no ambulnce stations on here !?! That’s because we are too busy & don’t have enough time on station to order a takeaway.. :-(

  2. Rick says:

I have to agree paul in fact we are lucky if we get back there for a break at all!

still on the plus side this is a handy feature for ordering from home

  3. Mike says:

I’m surprised that Pizza turned out to be the favourite of emergency services. When I worked in hospital it was Indian every time.
